The Town of Madison, pop. 2,246, is seeking an innovative and experienced professional to serve as Finance Director. This position serves as the chief accounting and financial officer, providing accounting advice and counsel to all Town Departments, Town Manager and Board of Aldermen. The Finance Department promotes and enables stewardship of the Town's financial and material resources by developing, recommending and implementation of a town wide fiscal management strategy. This position requires knowledge of the NC Local Budget and Fiscal Control Act. Responsibilities include the annual budget process, disbursement and accounting of municipal funds, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue collection, capital assets and the preparation of monthly and annual reports, preparation and direction of annual audit, development of accounting policies, procedures and practices, and enforcing local ordinances and North Carolina General Statutes. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board and Financial Accounting Standards Board requirements. Requirements: Minimum requirements for this position include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration and at least five (5) years of responsible administrative and management experience. Knowledge and experience in local government accounting is needed. Additional Requirements include: Prefer North Carolina Certified Public Finance Officer or ability to obtain such, bondable, and must possess a valid driver's license.
